It has never been easier to start a business at any time in human history than it is today. Across virtually every continent from Africa to Europe, from Asia to the Americas, more and more people are starting their own businesses. In the United Kingdom alone, a record number of 900,000 new businesses were registered in 2023 according to a report by NatWest Bank and Beauhurst.

It is not only easier to set up a business today, it is also much cheaper than it was just 20 years ago. Before 2000, only few people had access to the internet globally. Today literally thousands of businesses are being launched by people just from their home with few overheads and across all demographics – White, Black, Asian, Latino, Chinese, male, female, young and old.

Many businesses have been launched with only a good website and a laptop or a smartphone yet successfully delivering their offerings to a global market in return for a good fortune. There is greater access to a global market and talent pool than ever before. These are incredible opportunities that most people could not even think of just five decades ago.

Where entrepreneurs were previously limited to raising funds from traditional institutions like banks, they now have far more options beyond business loans. It is now possible more than ever before to raise cash from venture capitalists, angel investors, crowdfunding platforms, peer-to-peer lending and grants from governments, non-governmental organisations and corporate bodies.
